Some foods can be extremely harmful to your health.

And if, for example, you eat a lot of red meat every day, you can “earn” dementia.

We are talking primarily about bacon, sausage and hot dogs.

At least in this case, the risk of developing dementia increases by 13%.

This is the conclusion reached by American scientists based on the results of their research.

More than 133,000 volunteers with an average age of 49 took part.

Over 43 years of observation, 11,173 citizens were diagnosed with dementia.

After analyzing the subjects' diets, the scientists noticed that daily consumption of a quarter or more of processed red meat (two slices of bacon or one and a half slices of sausage) increased the risk of dementia by 13%.

It also turned out that people who ate excessive amounts of processed red meat aged faster by an average of 1.6 years.

The risk of subjective cognitive impairment increased by 14% in those who ate more than a quarter of processed meat each day.

People who ate one or more servings of unprocessed meat had a 16% increased risk.

According to scientists, one of the products of meat breakdown – trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO) – may increase cognitive dysfunction.
