Toothache can occur unexpectedly – at night or on weekends, when most dental clinics are closed.
But don’t worry – you won’t have to endure the pain until you see a doctor, because there are several ways to relieve toothache at home.
Cold compress
To make a cold compress, take ice from the freezer, wrap it in a clean towel and apply it to the sore spot. A napkin soaked in cold water will also work.
Cold helps to constrict blood vessels, slowing blood flow to the affected area, reducing swelling and relieving pain. Keep the compress on for a few minutes, and repeat the procedure if necessary.
Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide has antibacterial and pain-relieving properties that can help relieve toothache.
Rinse your mouth with a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide, and then rinse your mouth with plain water – at least twice. Do not swallow peroxide.
Salted water
If you don’t have hydrogen peroxide at home, replace it with salt – you can definitely find it in the kitchen. Dissolve a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and rinse your mouth with the resulting solution for 30 seconds.
Salt water helps heal wounds and increases the pH of the oral cavity, creating an alkaline environment in which bacteria find it difficult to survive.
