People have long noticed that the sounds of living nature have a calming effect - they soothe a person's nerves.
Scientists decided to figure it out and even found out which sounds of nature and in what situation are most productive.
Research on the influence of natural sounds on human health was conducted by Canadian specialist R. Buxton.
She analyzed audio recordings made at 251 locations in 66 American national parks.
She compared the data with the health level of local residents.
It turned out that the higher the noise level of natural sounds, the less often people got sick.
What sounds to listen to
It was also possible to find out that different sounds had different effects.
For example, the sound of water lifted the mood, and when listening to it, pain became less sensitive.
Bird singing had a beneficial effect on the nervous system, reducing stress and irritability.
As for the sounds of the urban environment, they, on the contrary, provoke stress and are harmful to health.
