With the onset of cold weather, scammers began to create Internet pages for stores selling car tires.
Two residents of Orsha fell victim to a fraudulent scheme, the press service of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee reported.
How the scammers operated
The victims found a page of a tire store on the social network Instagram (banned in Russia, owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist in Russia).
The seller asked for a 50% prepayment. One Orsha resident transferred 180 rubles, the second – 350.
The goods were not delivered to the buyers, and the seller stopped communicating.
Police warn: scammers use pages with a large number of subscribers and positive reviews.
They lure people with favorable prices that clearly do not correspond to the official ones, the Department of Internal Affairs reported.
When buying goods on the Internet, you need to make sure that the seller is authentic: find out their legal address, phone number, store or production address, call, check the information on the Kartoteka.by website.
It is forbidden to transfer prepayment to unverified sellers, the Internal Affairs Directorate added.
