On Friday, October 4, it became known that the member states of the European Union approved one of the proposals of the European Commission.
The EU's top executive body proposed the following: introducing tariffs on electric cars from China.
However, the European and Chinese sides still have time to find another solution.
It is noted that the search for alternative options will be carried out until the end of the current month.
Statement by the European Commission
The EU's executive body said it had received "the necessary support" from member countries to impose tariffs on electric vehicles from China.
In parallel, the EU and China continue to work intensively to find an alternative solution, the EC added. The translated quote from the statement of the European body is provided by MIA " Russia Today ".
It is emphasized that any possible alternative must be absolutely compatible with the World Trade Organization.
As noted by the European Commission, the deadline for submitting a final decision on the situation is October 30, 2024.
The collection of duties may begin as early as next month. This may happen if the EU does not change its decision by the end of this month. For now, the possibility of finding an alternative remains.
It is emphasized that the amount of duties will be up to 36.3 percent: the specific figure will depend on the manufacturer.
