Recently, road accidents involving wild animals have become more frequent in Belarus.
The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate explained how to avoid such accidents, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on Telegram.
How to Avoid Accidents with Wild Animals
It is necessary to be careful when driving through forests and bushes. Passengers can be involved in monitoring the right side of the road.
When you see a "Wild Animals" sign, you should slow down and be more alert.
The most dangerous time is twilight and early morning, when animals become more active and drivers become less alert and have less visual acuity.
If an animal appears on the roadway, even at a great distance, it is necessary to reduce speed to a minimum: there may be several animals.
In the dark, animals can be spotted by their eyes reflecting in the light of headlights.
When blinded by headlights, the animal begins to panic and rush about. In such a situation, you need to stop on the side of the road, turn off the headlights, leaving the parking lights and hazard lights on, and wait until the animal leaves the road.
You must not honk your horn, as this may cause an unpredictable reaction.
In the event of an accident, you must not leave the scene of the accident, as this will entail administrative liability.
Taking the carcass with you is also prohibited; this is a criminal offense.
The procedure is the same as for any accident. You need to mark the accident site, call emergency services and provide assistance to the injured people.
