You can ask the seller for advice, but it’s better to have at least some idea of what quality fruits look like.

I really want to choose sweet, juicy and seedless tangerines, because you have to wait a whole year for them to appear on the shelves, and disappointment is not cheap.

Let's find out which variety is considered the sweetest and whether it is true that the presence of seeds in a citrus fruit can be determined by its external appearance.

The sweetest

Fans of imported fruits should take a closer look at tangerines from Morocco or Spain.

The listed fruits are considered the sweetest and most delicious.

Turkish citrus fruits are often brought in, but they have a distinct sour taste.

Choose seedless ones

The clementine is seedless. It has a flattened shape and is considered a hybrid of a mandarin and an orange.

Satsuma does not have seeds. They are small and the skin is soft.

The same feature distinguishes the Unshiu variety from sunny Abkhazia. Large, the skin is porous, but the taste is sour.

From Morocco they bring the Nadorcott variety. It is also sweet, seedless and easy to clean.

Tips for choosing

1. Do not buy fruits with cracked skin, bruised or blemished.

2. Ripe fruits should have a distinct citrus aroma.

3. The heavier the tangerines, the juicier they are.

4. Sweet tangerines are usually medium in size, rich in color and heavy.

5. If the skin does not adhere tightly to the pulp, then the fruit is overripe and will not keep for long.

For reference

Mandarin is a small evergreen tree, a species of the genus Citrus of the Rutaceae family.
