Food moths pose a serious threat to food products.

Its larvae are capable of gnawing through plastic packaging, so it is recommended to store cereals in glass containers to prevent infection.

Since the pest can penetrate the cereal at the production stage or in the store, carefully inspect the packaging before purchasing.

If you find any suspicious inclusions, lumps or cobwebs inside, it is better to refuse such a product.

If the above signs were discovered only after you brought the purchases home, it is not necessary to throw away the cereal.

Instead, it should be baked in the oven at 120 degrees for 30 minutes.

This method effectively destroys larvae without damaging the grains themselves.

An alternative to roasting is freezing.

Place a freshly purchased bag of cereal in the freezer to allow the cold temperatures to kill the food moth pupae.

It also happens that the presence of a parasite is discovered too late, when the cereals have spent some time in the kitchen cupboard.

In such a situation, it will be necessary to organize an inspection of all remaining stocks. Spoiled products will need to be disposed of, and the shelves should be thoroughly cleaned.

The main thing is to conduct such “raids” regularly to keep food safe and avoid problems with food moths.
