The only question is how to keep a rather large berry fresh for more than two months.
Let's find out whether it is possible to store a watermelon in an apartment, and what conditions are required for this.
Storage of melons
1. If you have a basement or cellar, you can put the berries there. The air temperature there should be from 1 to 4 degrees Celsius, and the air humidity 75-85%.
Under these conditions, both watermelon and melon will remain tasty and juicy.
2. Watermelon and melon are placed on a rack, shelves or wooden boxes.
It is important to add a filler that absorbs excess moisture to prevent the development of bacteria and fungi.
This can be dry sand, which is gradually changed or added.
You can also store melons in wood ash or use sphagnum moss. It can prevent rot and has an antibacterial effect.
3. They also practice treating the surface of the watermelon with a solution of clay or alabaster, wax, paraffin. A protective layer up to 1 centimeter thick is applied.
How to Store Watermelons in an Apartment
1. The watermelon or melon should be wrapped in paper that does not allow light to pass through.
2. Store melons away from heating appliances, periodically turning them from one side to the other.
Under such conditions, watermelon and melon will be preserved for one month without changing their taste.
Note that only whole fruit can be stored this way. It is considered safe to store cut watermelon for up to 1 day.
