Why do cotton items shrink after washing? The answer lies in the fibers of the fabric.
Cotton fabric is made by intertwining cotton fibers, which are mostly made up of cellulose. When wet, the fibers swell and when dry, they shrink.
So what, should you not wash cotton items now? Of course not – just be careful when washing: at a minimum, do not use hot water, do not use aggressive detergents, and do not machine dry.
To save your favorite wardrobe item, try saturating the fibers with moisture and then stretching them a little.
So, first wet the fabric. Then carefully, without sudden movements and excessive force, stretch the product in different directions - this can be done either by hand or with a steam iron.
It is important to stop in time, as the fabric may stretch too much, and then you will probably have to start all over again, washing the item again in hot water and carrying out other manipulations with it.
True, no one can guarantee that after this the clothes will not fall apart in your hands.
