How to Easily Get Rid of Midges in the Kitchen: Solving the Problem Correctly

Fruit flies are very unpleasant neighbors. They appear suddenly and multiply very quickly.

They are not dangerous in themselves, but if you accidentally swallow their larvae with food, you can get a gastrointestinal infection.

Detection

Midges appear due to lack of hygiene in the kitchen and the presence of spoiled food.

First of all, check:

• store vegetables and throw away any rotten ones;
• containers with bulk products;
• vases with fruit;
• bread bin;
• vases with flowers and pots with plants;
• trash can;
• drinking bowls for pets;
• fridge.

Throw away spoiled items, wash and disinfect dirty items. This way you can avoid midges or spot them right away.

We recommend conducting such an audit at least once every week or two.

General cleaning

In the first step you only cleaned up a little, but if you already have midges, then such half measures will definitely not help.

Get started with a general cleaning.

Be sure to include:

• complete cleaning of the stove and its internal and external walls. It is advisable to do this with steam;
• clean the microwave oven from stuck fat;
• wash the floor thoroughly, without avoiding any cracks. Pay attention to the area under the sink and near the trash can;
• Unclog your sink drain with drain cleaner or a simple recipe of a few tablespoons of baking soda and a cup of vinegar, which has the same effect.

You probably know of other hard-to-reach and problematic places in your kitchen – don’t forget to tidy up those too.

Destruction

Even if you have cleaned everything out, but the midges are still bothering you, you should use bait traps for them, which you can make yourself.

For example, put a piece of fruit in the bottom of a glass or pour some wine. Wrap the glass in cling film, making several holes in it with a thick needle.

The midges will fly to the bait and will not be able to fly back. Throw the filled trap into a container outside.

You can also try to fight fruit flies with chemicals that are sold in stores.

To prevent midges from returning to your home, throw out trash and spoiled food promptly, monitor the health of your plants, do not leave uneaten food on the table, and do a general cleaning more often.

Then these “guests” are unlikely to visit the house again.
