In summer or when playing sports, it is impossible to avoid sweating.

The body regulates its thermal balance by sweating, thereby actually starting its own air conditioner. Blood circulation is stimulated, skin pores open. So sweating has some useful properties. However, the disadvantages include the typical unpleasant odor.

Washing solves the problem, but it may happen that the smell still remains in the textile fabric even after machine washing.

What items of clothing absorb sweat well

After an intense workout at the gym, have you washed your sportswear at 30 or 40 degrees, but after drying you find that the smell of sweat can still be detected?

This is because synthetic fibers (such as polyester) increase sweating and odors can linger in the fabric for a long time.

In turn, cotton absorbs more fragrances than synthetic fibers, and textiles made from synthetic fibers contain a lot of micrococci, which are partly responsible for the pungent smell of sweat.

However, not every material is suitable for washing at high temperatures. In addition, it is not very economical to constantly run the washing machine at a temperature of 60 degrees and above.

To help you get rid of the bad smell coming from your clothes, here are three home remedies that will help you put on your favorite shirt again without wrinkling your nose.

Vinegar

This versatile product is a must-have in your kitchen cupboard. Vinegar can be used on colored items of clothing that still have an odor.

Mix vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio, then leave the damaged T-shirt or sweater in the solution for several hours.

After treatment, wash the clothes again.

Citric acid

Citric acid is also a suitable odor remover for textile fibers if the machine wash cycle was insufficient.

However, in the case of this product, it should be remembered that it bleaches fabrics. Therefore, we recommend using citric acid only on white clothes.

If your favorite shirt already has a yellow border from used deodorant, citric acid will remove it.

Pour 1 liter of warm water into a bucket and add 4 spoons of citric acid powder. Put the clothes in it and let it soak in well. After the procedure, the clothes can be washed again.

Baking soda

Soda is also a great helper in the household. The advantage of baking soda over citric acid is that it does not have a bleaching effect, which makes it suitable for all fabrics.

This inexpensive home remedy is an effective odor neutralizer and will quickly eliminate the smell of sweat.

To achieve a result without odor, dissolve 1 heaped tablespoon of soda in 5 liters of water. Soak the laundry in the mixture for an hour and then wash it in the washing machine.

If you have any doubts about whether home remedies are suitable for your textiles, you should check the compatibility of the materials beforehand.
