The American dollar is known to be the most widely used currency in almost the entire world. As a result, it is also the most frequently counterfeited.

Fraudsters make very large sums of money from ordinary people who are not very knowledgeable in this area.

But in fact, it is not so difficult to distinguish a fake dollar from a real one. The main thing is to know several important rules for this distinction.

Denomination

US dollars are only available in limited denominations, namely $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100.

But, despite all this, this does not stop scammers from often offering $1,000 and $500 bills.

Remember, there are no banknotes larger than a hundred dollars! Don't forget this, and then you won't become bait for unscrupulous dollar traders.

Texture

All types of currencies are made from different types of material. For example, natural cotton is used to produce euro banknotes.

But for the production of the American dollar, only 75% of cotton is used, and the rest is flax. This allows these bills to be very durable.

It takes a lot of effort to tear it. When you take the banknote in your hand, you can feel a slight roughness that is somewhat reminiscent of ordinary cotton fabric.

Also, if you look at the numbers on the banknote with a magnifying glass, they will shimmer from green to black.

Portrait

The most frequently counterfeited bills are $100 bills. This is because it is enough to simply add one or two zeros to $1 and $10 bills. Therefore, it is worth remembering that the real $100 bill has an image of Benjamin Franklin.

If you try, you can easily remember this and not confuse bills that may be counterfeit.

Inscriptions

Everything depicted on the banknote, including all the inscriptions, should not under any circumstances spread when exposed to water. And they will also remain unchanged in bright sunlight, will not fade or burn out.

You can try rubbing the banknote a little. The original will not crumble or peel off.

The main drawing, and everything else, should have a clear outline and a distinct color.

Watermarks and security strip

In order to identify original dollar bills, you can try to look at them from different angles.

If you look against the light, you can see patterns that are only visible that way.

Next to the portrait drawing there must be a watermark and an original strip, which is called a security strip.

It is only visible through light rays. If you take the new variation of the hundred dollar bill, several numbers 100 are depicted on its strip. And the bell with the inkwell has the property of changing color when tilted.

Serial number

Everyone knows that each banknote has an exclusive serial number. It consists of eleven symbols, which include letters and numbers.

This number is repeated twice on the front side. The symbols must be clearly visible and not differ in size.

If you turn the dollar over, it has a bright green hue, and the pattern on the frame is well-drawn.

With the help of the above rules you can become more savvy. But beyond that, it is better to simply avoid unverified exchange points or persons who offer these services.
