Tangerines delight with a bright aroma and sweet and sour taste. If the tangerines are frankly sour, then you should not overeat them to the point of heartburn.
There is a simple way to make them sweet even without a microwave oven. They say that this life hack was invented by Japanese housewives.
Waiting for tangerines to ripen on a windowsill or in a dark place is useless. They will rather dry out or rot.
So take a deep bowl, sour tangerines and hot water.
Place the fruit in a bowl and pour hot water over it (temperature about 40 degrees Celsius).
After 10 minutes, take it out and try it.
If you feel that there is not enough sweetness, drain the hot water and transfer the fruit into a bowl of ice water.
The trick is that the sudden change in temperature destroys the acid in the tangerines, and the fruit acquires a sweet taste.
Typically these are orange or deep orange fruits with no blemishes.
It is believed that the lighter the peel of the tangerine, the more sour the fruit.
