If you have stayed in a good hotel or guest house, you will have noticed that the towels there are soft, fluffy and a pleasure to dry yourself with.
But at home, for some reason, they are hard, sometimes even prickly. And there is no pleasure in using them.
How can you make your home towel as good as one in an elite hotel? It's not that difficult.
You just need to know a few features of selection and care.
Choose towels with thick and long pile, then they will be fluffy. Also pay attention to the stiffness.
If the pile is not very soft to begin with, it is unlikely that you will be able to change the situation with care.
Feel the towel. If it feels the way you want it to, then buy it.
Before first use, the towel should be washed and then left to dry in the open air, preferably in the shade, so that it dries slowly.
During the first wash and dry, the material adapts to the new conditions. Some fibers become loose, while others shrink and tighten. Also, don't be alarmed if the towel shrinks a little after the first wash, this is a natural process.
If a towel is initially soft and fluffy, it will always remain so, unless you spoil it by washing. Hotels know how to buy and wash towels correctly. That's the whole secret.
- Never overload the washing machine. The towels need to have room to "maneuver" so that they are washed well. After all, the remaining microparticles of dirt make the fibers hard.
- When washing towels, use gel, not classic powder, it dissolves better and its residue does not remain between the fibers. If you use powder, then choose one that is easy to wash out and does not add rigidity.
- Do not use fabric softener. It kind of glues the fibers together, making them stiff and somewhat prickly. But regular table vinegar will help rinse out the powder and make the fibers soft.
- Use a dryer. If you have a program specifically for towels, that's ideal. If not, use a cotton program.
Also, study the manufacturer's label, where it provides washing recommendations. And be sure to follow them! After all, people often ruin a good product simply because they didn't look at the instructions.
