A new strain of coronavirus is spreading around the world. It is known that XEC (as this variant is called) is more contagious than its predecessors.
And it was first discovered in June of this year in Germany. Since then, it has already managed to occupy Britain, Denmark, the USA and some other countries.
The BBC reports this with reference to Eric Topola, director of the Scripps Research Institute.
The latter warns that the spread of the new strain of COVID-19 has only just begun – the peak of its vigorous occupation activity is expected in a couple of months.
The scientist particularly draws attention to the fact that XEC is becoming the main variant of the coronavirus.
But it will take several months before its spread reaches high levels, the expert suggests.
It is stated that the new variation of the "crown" differs from its "brothers" only by a couple of mutations, but it is these that make XEC more infectious.
At the same time, experts are confident that today there are enough vaccines to protect against infection with all the ensuing consequences.
As for the symptoms of an XEC attack, they are typical for coronavirus in general: high fever, cough, sore throat, body aches.
Also, when infected with this variant of COVID, lung problems cannot be ruled out - similar to those caused by previous strains.
Moreover, even the percentage of cases of complications to the lungs is approximately the same as with other types of coronavirus.
