Musk Informs: New Neuralink Implant Will Allow People Blind From Birth to See
One of the richest people on the planet, American businessman Elon Musk, made an important statement.
He announced that a new visual implant from Neuralink, a company he co-founded, will allow even people who were blind from birth to regain their sight.
The device is called Blindsight, and Musk says it will provide vision even to those who have lost both eyes and the optic nerve.
Provided that the visual cortex of the brain is not damaged, it will allow even those who were blind from birth to see for the first time, the TASS agency quotes the entrepreneur as saying.
Elon says the image quality will be poor at first.
However, over time, the device, he says, will allow vision in the infrared and ultraviolet spectrums.
Moreover, this implant, as Musk assures, will be able to detect radar wavelengths.
Neuralink representatives, in turn, stated that Blindsight has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration as a breakthrough development.
