How to recognize scammers by their phrases: when to end the call immediately

21.10.2024 05:50

Fraudsters are constantly introducing new fraudulent schemes to get potential victims to either provide personal information to access finances or transfer funds.

There are several phrases that, upon hearing, are best avoided or interrupted by hanging up.

"I am a bank employee"

Employees of a large corporation never make calls themselves.

And they provide all the information personally when contacting the bank.

"A loan application has been submitted"

If you have not personally applied for any credit, then such a statement will make you, at the very least, nervous.

Don't try to figure it all out. Just hang up.

"Safe or Special Account"

Fraudsters mislead their victims by trying to convince them that someone wants to write off money from their accounts.

Don't fall for such verbal machinations.

"Do not disclose information. Investigative actions are underway"

Law enforcement officers do not perform procedural actions over the phone and certainly do not ask for help in catching criminals.

If necessary, you may be summoned by subpoena. Be vigilant!

"Suspicious operation. They want to steal your money"

Bank employees never ask their clients to perform actions on their account or card.

The bank can only call from the official number or a message may follow in the online application.

"I am a security officer" or "financial security specialist"

Liars, introducing themselves in this way, most often try to find out all the personal data on the card.

They may ask about the card balance, the code from the SMS. Remember: bank employees can see all your details anyway.

"SIM card is about to expire"

These cards do not have this feature.

"Dictate the code from the SMS"

Scammers can start a dialogue in different ways. For example, "the bank is celebrating an anniversary" and "you are being given the opportunity to participate in a lottery."

Recently, fraudsters have become more active in messengers, creating accounts in them and putting the bank's logo on the avatar. Block messages and numbers!
