The record for the loudest cat purr was set in 2015 in the UK.
A 13-year-old cat named Merlin managed to produce a sound with a volume of 67.8 decibels.
Thanks to this achievement, the cat got into the Guinness Book of Records.
It happened on April 2, 2015 in the town of Torquay in the south of England.
Merlin purred at 67.8 decibels.
According to some sources, the record set by Smokey the Cat in 2011 was repeated.
According to other data, the record holder from Torquay managed to exceed the figure by 0.12 decibels.
Merlin's owner periodically faces difficulties because of her noisy cat.
So, sometimes it is difficult for a woman to watch TV and talk on the phone.
It is worth noting that Merlin's purring is comparable in volume to a human scream and to the noise generated by the operation of certain devices (air conditioner, dishwasher).
