In 2015, Indian resident Shridhar Chillal was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the owner of the longest nails.

At the time of the last measurement, the total length of the fingernails on the man's left hand was... 909 centimeters.

The longest nail (it grew on the thumb) grew to 197 centimeters.

But the length of the shortest nail on the Indian's left hand was "only" 164 centimeters.

Biography of the former owner of the longest nails

Shridhar Chillal was born in the Indian city of Pune in 1937.

As a schoolboy, the future record holder accidentally broke a fingernail on his teacher's hand.

The teacher criticized the boy, telling him that it was very difficult to keep long nails intact.

After this, Chillal decided to find out from his own experience whether it was really difficult to have long nails.

The boy stopped cutting the nails on his left hand in 1952. Chillal decided not to “weigh down” his right hand so that he could do household chores.

Long nails seriously complicated the Indian man's life. However, the "weighting" did not prevent the man from getting married and getting a profession: the man became a photographer.

In the summer of 2018 (66 years after the start of the "experiment"), Chillal finally decided to cut his nails. The horny plates were shortened to a normal length. The cut nails were donated to a museum in the United States.
