In late 1977, a pregnant Argentine citizen, María Silvia de Palma, was taken to the Argentine-owned Antarctic station Esperanza.

It was at this point on January 7, 1978 that the woman gave birth to a son.

The boy automatically received Argentine citizenship, since his mother and father had similar citizenship.
