Alexander Lukashenko assessed the current situation in Syria, noting that key global players have now entered into confrontation in the Arab Republic.

According to the head of state, the events taking place there should become a lesson for Belarus.

He stated this during a conversation with employees of the POZHSNAB enterprise in the city of Borisov, Minsk region.

A lesson for Belarusians

There is such a mess there that it seems to me that this is only the beginning, and now the struggle for power will begin, the Belarusian leader’s press service quotes him as saying.

He pointed out that Syria is currently a battleground between the world's major players. What is happening there should be a lesson for Belarusians.

We must determine our own destiny. We must save our country, the leader of the nation called on his compatriots.

At the same time, he expressed confidence that the new political forces in Syria will not break off relations with Belarus and Russia, because “they are not idiots.”

The head of state predicts that the new government will rely on two wings – western and eastern.

The West is the West - there is power there and so on, the Syrians do not need to quarrel with them. But here they will not break off relations with us either, he is sure.

And if they do break it up, then it can be considered that the Americans and the West will do it. Plus the local opposition.

Western involvement

The President also said that at one time this Arab country was turned into a testing ground.

As for former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Alexander Lukashenko does not consider him a dictator for the reason that “he did not have the resources” for this.

What happened now, in the speaker’s opinion, is a direct consequence of the West’s participation.

It had to be broken. There is enough oil and gas there. A gas pipeline had to be built from somewhere to somewhere through Syria to the Mediterranean coast, he said.

Lukashenko assigned the main role in all of this to the West and the Americans, who, according to him, have their own interests in Syria.
