The Ukrainian Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War has confirmed the arrival in the country of the remains of the bodies of prisoners of war who died in the crash of the Il-76 aircraft.

According to Kyiv, the identification procedure is currently underway.

Earlier, on December 9, the Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova reported that Moscow had handed over to Ukraine the bodies of prisoners of war who died in that plane crash.

During the latest repatriation events, the remains of the dead requiring additional identification were transferred to Ukraine, MIA Rossiya Segodnya quotes representatives of the Ukrainian coordination headquarters.

They noted that experts “as part of the criminal proceedings” are determining whether the transferred remains actually belong to Ukrainian military personnel.

Let us recall that the incident occurred on January 24 of this year.

As Russian media reported, the Ukrainian Armed Forces shot down a Russian Il-76 military transport aircraft over the Belgorod region that day.

He was transporting 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war for exchange.

It was reported that all people on board, including three accompanying Russian Armed Forces officers and six crew members, died.

The fact of death was confirmed, among other things, by DNA tests.
