In the autumn-winter season, road salts are not the only thing that affects people's shoes, which acquire characteristic white stains.
Very often, sidewalks treated with special agents become a real torture for pets on walks.
Their owners complain that after walking along such paths (they are treated because of the ice), cats or dogs meow or whine pitifully.
This is because the cracked pads on their paws are causing them pain.
How can you protect your beloved pets' limbs from unexpected misfortune?
Experts say that concentrated salt solutions have the same effect on animal skin as they do on shoe leather.
The only difference is that the latter does not feel pain, while cats and dogs suffer from it.
The negative impact of saline solution is that the skin on the animals' paws becomes dehydrated, dry, and it also leads to cracking.
The body reacts accordingly – skin irritation occurs.
The latter in turn leads to itching, discomfort and pain.
And the most vulnerable places on the paws are the skin between the toes.
Experts recommend using special footwear for animals, which allows avoiding direct contact of paws with chemicals.
Such products are available for sale. But you can make them yourself - from waterproof materials.
In principle, you can use regular materials, but they need to be treated with water-repellent impregnations.
Also allowed is “paw wax” – special compounds that are applied to the pads and between the toes, thereby creating a water-repellent film.
