Experienced dog handlers receive a lot of questions from people who have just become puppy owners, and the lion's share of them are related to games.
It turns out that this topic is very difficult for novice dog owners, so today we decided to take on the explanation of such a popular game that owners often play with puppies, like tug-of-war.
It is believed that this entertainment is harmful for puppies. The reason for this is the danger that the bite will be damaged.
In fact, bone tissue is so dense that playing with a rag for a minute will not affect the puppy's bite. Changes can only occur if your pet hangs on that rag for several hours every day.
So what happens then – can you hang a puppy on a toy and tug at it as much as you like?
But no – the danger of playing tug-of-war is connected, as we have already figured out, not with the bite, but with the fact that the muscles, ligaments, coordination of movements and the animal are still in a very weak state.
One awkward movement is enough to result in a dislocated jaw, a broken tooth, an injured limb, etc.
So, of course, you can play tug-of-war with your pet, but only if you follow safety precautions. This means that your efforts should be proportionate to the puppy’s age and skills.
