Hungarian scientists have come to the conclusion that dogs do not simply pretend to respond correctly to human speech.
Animals understand words, but do not respond to commands, and even compare the word they hear with the object and its purpose.
An interesting experiment was conducted by scientists from the Eotvos Lorand University of Budapest (Hungary).
The results of the work were published in the journal Current Biology.
Using an electroencephalogram, they measured the dogs' brain activity.
As a result, it turned out that pets can match words with objects and even form a certain “vocabulary”.
The study involved 18 dogs and their owners, who pronounced the names of toys (for example, ball).
Toys were shown to pets and given away. The name of the toy did not always correspond to the object.
EEG showed that the dog's brain responded differently when an object was named correctly or incorrectly.
Scientists have come to the conclusion that the number of words in a dog's vocabulary does not matter. Absolutely all dogs can correlate objects and their names, the researchers are sure.
