Why the cat does not drink water from the bowl: a comment from a veterinarian
It is not for nothing that cats are considered the cleanest and even most fastidious pets.

The reason for this behavior was commented on by felinologist and veterinarian Nikolai Leonov to the publication Veterinary Science and Life.
The expert noted that it is not without reason or out of spite that cats refuse to drink water from a bowl and go to the bathroom or drink from the kitchen sink.
This path was dictated to them by evolution, and the program was preserved at the level of instincts.
The specialist sees the root of the problem in the fact that in the reservoirs where ungulates, the prey of predators from the cat family, gathered to drink, the water was often not the cleanest.
This is why all representatives of this family, from small to large, drink running water.
Therefore, cat owners should place the container with clean water further away from the food bowl to prevent food from getting into the water.
For the same reason, cats sometimes touch the water in a bowl or other container with their paw before they start drinking.
