Every parent has at one time or another encountered a child's desire to get a dog. No one is against the child developing responsibility and becoming independent.

But you just need to take everything into account, and especially the consequences of the decision made.

The head of the Bars canine center, Anatoly Kotenko, told Novosibirsk News how to act in such a situation.

1. Assess your strengths and capabilities

The child should understand that the pet will have to be walked twice a day and in any weather. Therefore, it would be better to check whether the son or daughter is ready for such a turn in their life.

2. Find out why you need a dog

It could be a guard dog, a companion, or just a spontaneous decision to get a fashionable dog.

3. Shelter dog or purebred

It is unknown in what conditions the dog lived, especially if it is an adult dog.

In addition, one must be aware of diseases, infections, parasites and other health problems.

4. Pet's character

Aggressive breeds will have to be excluded in advance. The standard in this regard is the Labrador - the most friendly dog, which is also called a nanny.

As for miniature dogs, this is not always a good choice. Some of them are very loud and also jealous.

5. Breed is not everything

Puppies from the same litter are all different. Once you have decided on the breed, you need to consult with the breeder and find out every little detail.

They say that people choose dogs that are similar to themselves, and they do this purely intuitively.
