There is no need to tell you what excessive salivation in dogs is. There is little pleasant about it, and the abundance of secreted fluid does not always depend on the breed.

By default, bulldogs, mastiffs, pugs, boxers and others are considered drooling breeds. But there is also a physiological factor.

Experts have explained when excessive salivation can be considered normal and when it is not.

Norm

The secretion of saliva is influenced by various irritants.

1. For a dog, this may be natural at the sight of food or before eating.

2. Similarly, drooling may occur if the pet is tired after a walk or other activities or when teeth are changing.

3. Also, saliva may flow during treatment and taking medications or due to stress.

4. And during the trip, dogs may experience problems with the functioning of the vestibular apparatus, which leads to similar consequences.

Pathology

Scientifically, this process is called hypersalivation, which can be associated with the following problems.

1. The appearance of plaque, inflammation of the gums, mucous membranes, bones stuck in the teeth or loose teeth.

2. The cause may also be a high body temperature of the animal and inflammation of the glands, injuries to the oral cavity.

3. This may be a consequence of poisoning or infectious diseases (rabies and leptospirosis) and even epilepsy.

But regardless of the reasons, the owner should show concern and consult a veterinarian at the slightest doubt.
