The process known as algae bloom in an aquarium is caused by phototrophic microorganisms, or simply put, algae that feed on photosynthesis.

At first the water becomes slightly cloudy, then turns green and becomes less transparent.

There could be many reasons, including excessive lighting, large amounts of organic matter, high temperatures, etc.

To eliminate the problem, you should not completely change the water in the aquarium. Instead, the methods that we will tell you about below will come in handy.

1. Installing a UV sterilizer. This method can be called the fastest and most effective. Among the disadvantages are the high cost, as well as the impossibility of connecting it to some aquariums.

2. Removing excess organic matter, which is the nutrient for algae growth. To do this, you need to change up to 20% of the water weekly, wash the filter sponges, provide sufficient aeration, avoid overcrowding the aquarium and overfeeding, etc.

3. Darkening the aquarium. If you take away the light source from the algae, their feeding and reproduction intensity will decrease significantly.

4. Installing padding polyester in the filter. This measure should be used in combination with others. Thanks to fine-pored filter fillers, you will be able to successfully cope with filtering out algae. Do not forget to wash the filter - about 3-4 times a day.

5. Use of special preparations designed to combat algae.
