What to do if you find a tick on your cat: first aid for your pet

Cat ticks are carriers of numerous diseases, including Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis, hepatozoonosis, and babesiosis.

Their treatment is complex and lengthy, and in some cases can even lead to the death of the pet.

This is why, as soon as you find a tick, you should remove it as quickly as possible - the shorter the feeding period, the lower the likelihood of infection.

The easiest way is to use a special hook or plastic tongs - these devices can be purchased at a pet store.

In addition, insecticidal steam sprays can be used to remove the parasite.

The goal should be to completely remove the tick: often a small abscess develops at the site where the tick's head remains, which sometimes requires surgical intervention.

Important: Before starting the operation, be sure to wear gloves to avoid getting infected.

If you don’t have gloves at hand, regular bags will do.
