Despite their unambiguous attitude towards water, cats sometimes climb into a bowl or other containers with water or touch the water with their paws, and sometimes lie down to sleep in the sink.
According to experts, the strange behavior can be easily explained by the instincts of representatives of the feline family.
The simplest explanation for these oddities is the desire to test the depth level. But there are other reasons.
1. Out of caution
Cats and caution are two inseparable concepts. Even when an animal goes to the toilet, it wants to feel completely safe. If a cat lives in a house with other pets, then caution can manifest itself in everything, even in the desire to drink water.
2. Position of the bowl
Perhaps the cat does not like the way the bowl is positioned. It may be uncomfortable for her to drink, and then she may start licking the water from her paw, she may try to move the vessel, or simply spill the water if the bowl is dirty.
3. Game
Despite their attitude towards water, cats are playful and generally very curious. They can watch the water, and if the pet has a playful character, it is quite possible that while playing, it will start touching the water with its paws.
And finally, there is an opinion that cats do not drink water from stagnant bodies of water, but only from rivers and other clean sources. It is possible that it is instinct that forces the pet to move the water before drinking.
