If a person at 70 years of age can walk energetically as in his youth, he has a high chance of living to 80 years.
This conclusion was made by Japanese gerontologists.
As part of a multi-year study, Japanese gerontologists studied the walking speed of elderly people.
The study, which began in 1997, involved people aged 60 to 80 years.
Long-term observations have allowed us to establish the following pattern.
If a person at the age of 70 can walk at a speed of one and a half meters per second, his chances of living to 80 years are very high.
If at the age of 70 the walking speed does not exceed half a meter per second, the probability of living to 80 years is 15-35%.
