Many have heard that in Germany it is forbidden to spend the night in summer cottages, but few people know why.
We reveal the reason for the introduction of this strange ban.
A dacha in Germany is called a Kleingarten (small garden) and is a small plot of land on which a garden house is located.
German summer houses are located within the city limits on lands unsuitable for urban development (along railways, highways, etc.).
Overnight stays at such dachas are prohibited for fire safety reasons (the houses are not equipped with fire alarms). Violation of the ban is subject to a fine.
In general, there are quite a few prohibitions for summer residents in Germany. For example, it is prohibited to grow agricultural products for sale; to hire workers to develop the summer house/gardening work; to rent out the summer house or land; to install gas/electric heating; to grow trees taller than 2.5 m; to concrete or cover with tiles more than 6% of the territory; to raise the floor of the house more than 25 cm above ground level, etc.
Compliance with the above and other rules is monitored by a commission elected by the members of the gardening association.
