Why People Get Shivers from Admiration: Research Results

It is a well-known fact that when a person is in a state of admiration and overwhelmed with feelings, his body trembles.

The human body still hides many similar mysteries. But scientists already have an answer to this question.

The phenomenon was studied by employees of the Californian Institute for Advanced Consciousness Studies, and the results were published in PNAS Nexus.

A shiver may run through the body while listening to soulful music, watching a movie with a heart-wrenching scene, or a work of art.

Even an emotional and profound speech can be perceived in a similar way.

Research results

Scientists have established surveillance of almost 3 thousand volunteers.

They had to assess the level of emotional arousal, as well as emotional valence (positive or negative attitude towards the stimulus).

Participants in the experiment were tested for sensitivity using objects that combined music and speech.

It turned out that the format of the so-called stimulus does not matter at all for goosebumps to run.

It mostly depends on the content.

Based on the data obtained, an artificial intelligence model was created.

It can predict the onset of chills with an accuracy of 73.5%.

In the future, this model will be used as a tool to help restore mental health.
