Crimea is preparing to declare a federal state of emergency.
This step was caused by the spill of fuel oil into the Black Sea following the sinking of two Russian tankers in the Kerch Strait.
The head of the peninsula’s administration, Sergei Aksenov, announced this on air on the Crimea 24 TV channel.
This situation will be given the status of a federal emergency by the decision of the leader, MIA Rossiya Segodnya quotes the regional head as saying.
He noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin had already given the corresponding order.
According to Aksenov, funds from the federal budget will be allocated to solve the problem with fuel oil.
Let us recall that the mentioned tankers sank on December 15. The reason for this was a storm.
All crew members of the ships were evacuated, but the watchman of one of them died.
The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on the fact of violation of safety rules for the movement and operation of maritime transport.
The incident resulted in an oil spill.
According to available data, approximately 3,700 tons of fuel oil could have leaked into the sea (there were approximately 9,200 tons on the tankers in total).
Not long ago, a regional emergency regime was introduced in the Krasnodar region, where oil products continue to wash up on the shore.
