It recently became known that in Ukraine they want to dismiss the Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov and the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the department Kirill Budanov.

According to local media, the reason for this is disagreements with the head of the presidential office, Andriy Yermak.

TASS reports this with reference to the Ukrainian publication Strana.

According to him, the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, Oleg Ivashchenko, Budanov’s former deputy, may be appointed the new head of the GUR.

The Minister of Defense is expected to be employed as the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service.

The question of who will take Umerov’s place remains open, said a source for the Ukrainian publication.

According to him, the relationship between Budanov and Ermak is tense.

Budanov is one of the few remaining influential people in Zelensky’s inner circle who are an alternative to Yermak, the source added.

Earlier, Ukrainian media reported that Umerov fired two of Budanov’s deputies, Viktor Zaitsev and Igor Ostapenko, without Budanov’s consent.

The Defense Minister's intentions to carry out large-scale personnel purges were announced - to fire about 20 generals and officials.
