For many, the main berry crop on their summer cottage plot is raspberries.
Proper care and a properly selected variety allow you to harvest two crops a year. In addition, you need to consider the vitamin composition of the berry and the relative unpretentiousness of the bush.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti, a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, explained why summer residents are not advised to fertilize raspberries with ash.
On the one hand, this is the most accessible fertilizer, which is practically never wasted on a summer cottage.
Ash contains macro- and microelements, improves soil structure and increases yield.
It also helps neutralize soil acidity, is a growth stimulant and a means of combating plant diseases.
But this fertilizer has its own disadvantages.
1. If you do not follow the dosage when adding ash, you can worsen the growing conditions of raspberries.
2. In addition, ash is poor in some essential nutrients, such as nitrogen.
3. If it is applied unevenly to the soil, there is a risk of uneven nutrition.
From 0.5 to 1 kg of ash can be added per square meter. Moreover, it can be added once a year (in spring or autumn).
But before applying this fertilizer, it is necessary to check the pH level and take into account previously applied fertilizers to the soil.
It cannot be said that raspberries should not be fed with ash. It can be both harmful and useful, but it all depends on the specific growing conditions.
For reference
Ash is a non-combustible residue formed from mineral impurities of fuel materials during their complete combustion.
