Is it time to sow tomatoes for seedlings? Only experienced gardeners can answer this question with certainty.

Tomatoes are a crop that cannot be sown at random.

Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist agronomist and landscape designer, told how to accurately choose the date for the start of sowing.

When to sow tomatoes for seedlings

1. On average, this is the period between the end of February and the beginning of March.

This difference is due to varietal requirements and climatic features.

2. By the time of transplantation, the seedlings should have strengthened, that is, grown by 15-20 cm and produced up to 7 full leaves.

3. The planting date varies from region to region. Usually, gardeners begin work after the threat of recurrent frosts has completely passed.

Strict calculation

Calculation is essential in gardening.

Remember that it takes 50-60 days for tomato seedlings to develop, so the seeds are sown in the first half of March.

Late-ripening varieties require more time, which means that sowing begins in the second half of February and ends before March 1.

Don't forget to add a few days to the growing season for seed germination and emergence.

Better days

Having calculated the exact date for the start of sowing, all that remains is to choose the best days.

In February, gardeners are advised to act on the 1st, 4th, 5th, and also from the 10th to the 13th.

In March, the Moon favors sowing from the 6th to the 9th, as well as on the 12th and 13th of March.
