It is important to start sowing vegetable seeds for seedlings in a timely manner.
Each species and family has its own optimal time, thanks to which the seedlings grow strong, do not linger in pots and do not suffer from recurrent frosts after planting in the beds.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" - a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, told when to sow eggplants for seedlings.
To calculate the optimal sowing date for a heat-loving and capricious crop, the lunar calendar recommendations alone will not be enough.
As you know, vegetables differ in ripening time.
Thus, early varieties of eggplants are transplanted into beds at the age of 60-65 days from the moment of emergence.
Mid-season eggplants are sent to the beds after 65-70 days of growth, and late ones after about 75-80 days.
Knowing the characteristics of the selected variety and taking into account the climatic conditions of your region, you can calculate the optimal sowing day.
To do this, you need to add a week or 10 days for germination to the seedling development period.
That is, if it is an early variety, then it turns out that you need to start sowing approximately 70-75 days before the expected date of transplanting the seedlings into the ground.
It is not a thankless task to rely on dates. The optimal time for transplanting eggplant seedlings comes after the soil warms up to at least 18 degrees Celsius.
But gardeners are often advised to do this at +20 degrees Celsius (soil temperature).
Taking into account all these tips, you can focus on the recommendations of the lunar calendar for gardeners and vegetable growers.
So in February you can sow eggplant seeds: 4th and 5th, 9th and 10th, 16th-20th, and also 23rd, 24th and 27th.
In March these are the 4th and 5th, 8th and 9th, 15th-19th, 22nd-24th, 27th and 28th, and the 31st.
