What to plant in January for seedlings: experienced gardeners are already taking action today

The reasons for such an early sowing campaign are the following: some people plant seedlings in a greenhouse, and there are plants that have a long germination period.
Seeds grown from seedlings are more resistant to bad weather and diseases. You will be able to save on buying seedlings.
When buying seeds, you need to take into account some nuances:
- temperature and light conditions.
- harvest time.
- age for planting seedlings in the ground.
- seed germination.
Here is an approximate list of crops whose seeds can be sown for seedlings.
Strawberry
The seeds must first undergo stratification. Small planting material is mixed with slightly moistened soil in December, covered and put away under snow for a week.
Then the seeds are put in the refrigerator until January. Only in January are the prepared seeds planted.
Bell pepper
Seeds can be sown for seedlings in the second half of January. The seeds are calibrated in salt water and then disinfected in a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
After all procedures, the seeds are washed, wrapped in gauze and lightly soaked in water. As soon as the seeds swell and sprout, they can be sown.
Attention: under no circumstances should you wait for the roots to appear and for the seed coat to completely come off – the sprout may die.
Tomatoes
If you want to get tomatoes in the middle of summer, then they need to be sown in the first half of January.
Eggplant
A capricious plant that does not like transplantation. But if the "blue" is stronger, it will not notice the transplantation.
Celery
To sow this crop, you need to add sand to the soil.
Petunia
It is best to sow directly into peat pots.
Lobelia
The seeds of these beautiful flowers are sown in soil consisting of peat and sand.
Heliotrope
Mix peat and wet sand, moisten, then sow the seeds in the soil mixture and cover with glass.
Initially, the seeds are sown in small containers, which must be disinfected beforehand.
The soil can be bought in a store, or you can make it yourself: mix four parts sand, three parts humus and three parts peat. Each container should be covered with cling film or glass to create the effect of a warm, wet bath.
After the emergence of seedlings, and later the first 2-3 leaves, the plants must be cut and planted in separate cups.
Errors when sowing:
- Sow seeds in large quantities in a small container.
- failure to comply with the watering regime, which leads to soil drying out or waterlogging.
- sowing without covering. If you do not cover the seeds with film, they will take longer to germinate, and they can be washed away when watering.
To obtain high-quality and healthy seedlings, it is necessary to observe the planting and transplanting dates, temperature and light conditions, watering and fertilizing.
