What to do to prevent raspberries from “escaping” from the plot: methods of experienced gardeners

To ensure that your raspberry always pleases you with a rich harvest of aromatic sweet berries, and the bushes do not grow, turning the area into a jungle, you need to follow a few simple rules.

At least, this is what experienced summer residents do, whose raspberry patches are well-groomed, pleasing to the eye with their neatness and distinguished by a stable, high-quality harvest.

Experienced people say: the key to success in this business is the correct planting of the raspberry patch.

Every stage is important – from choosing a location to the planting itself.

Place

Raspberries love flat (not against slight slopes) and well-lit areas.

It does not like lowlands with accumulated moisture, as well as steep slopes subject to erosion.

The best option is on the western or eastern side of the summer cottages to provide the plant with evening or morning sunlight.

The soil should be fertile, light, with good air permeability and a neutral or slightly acidic reaction.

Avoid planting raspberries where nightshade crops, strawberries, or cherries were previously grown.

The best predecessors are garlic, legumes and melons.

Preparation

Before planting, it is extremely important to limit the area of the raspberry patch in order to prevent the raspberries from “escaping” to neighboring beds or beyond the boundaries of the plot.

That is, it is necessary to prevent the growth of undergrowth and protect your land plot from the fate of “drowning” in the jungle.

Experienced people recommend digging in sheets of slate or other material around the perimeter to a depth of about 20-30 centimeters.

Depending on the size of the plot, we will choose the planting method.

For small areas, the bush method is optimal - we plant each plant in a separate hole.

If the raspberry patch is supposed to be large and the size of the plot allows it, you can resort to the trench method.

In this case, we place the bushes in long trenches.

Dates and procedure for planting

We plant in spring or autumn.

If in spring, then after the soil warms up and frosts have finally passed. But you need to plant before the raspberries start to actively grow.

If in autumn – from the end of September to mid-October, that is, about a month before the onset of cold weather.

As for the planting procedure, a few hours before the process, you need to water the holes or trenches (from 2 to 5 liters per bush).

We plant the seedlings at a distance of 40-60 centimeters from each other, while the root collar should be 2-3 centimeters above the ground level.

We fill the holes with soil, compact it and water each bush (from 15 to 20 liters of water).

Next, we mulch the soil with coniferous bark, peat or humus.
