Stretching out tomato seedlings is a problem familiar to many gardeners.

We'll tell you why tomato seedlings stretch out and what to do about it.

How to save stretched tomato seedlings

There may be different reasons for seedlings stretching out. These include early planting, lack of light, incorrect temperature conditions, and overfeeding with fertilizers.

To prevent the seedlings from stretching, the room temperature should be 15-18 degrees, and the length of daylight should be 15 hours.

The temperature of the water for irrigation should be no lower than 20 and no higher than 25 degrees.

You can also prevent seedlings from stretching by using growth regulators.

They promote the growth of the root system and inhibit the growth of the above-ground part without disturbing the natural development of the plant.

You should start using growth regulators after three leaves appear on the seedlings.

If the seedlings have already stretched out, ordinary scissors will help save them.

Simply cut off the growth point on the main stem of the plant. This will promote the development of the root system and thickening of the above-ground part. At the same time, the upward growth will stop.

The cut area should be sprinkled with crushed activated or charcoal.

If the seedlings have not yet grown very tall, they can simply be covered with soil.
