If the fruits and vegetables you stored in the cellar began to spoil, the first thing you should do is determine the reason why the mold began to spread.

Very often this happens due to the high humidity that prevails in the place where the crop is stored.

An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh found an answer to the question of how to stop moisture coming into the cellar from outside.

Groundwater

How do you know if there is high groundwater in the area under the cellar? The most obvious sign is a constantly damp floor in the storage area.

Do not ignore this problem under any circumstances – it is so serious that it can even lead to a partial collapse of the structure.

There is a solution to the problem: build a drainage system and create a blind area around the perimeter of the cellar.

Heavy rains, melting snow

The humidity level in the storage facility may also increase due to heavy rainfall.

Moisture penetrates through cracks in the floor and walls. This is also facilitated by insufficient waterproofing of structures, as well as the use of materials during construction that have high moisture absorption.

Therefore, first of all, it is worth sealing the existing cracks using sealing materials.

Cover the walls inside and outside the cellar with roofing felt, which, in turn, should be treated with bitumen mastic and polymer resin.

To insulate walls and ceilings, it is worth using thermal insulation materials, which will guarantee a constant microcomfort and temperature in the room.
