What harm does cold water do to indoor plants: some gardeners don’t even realize

Many people, whose windowsills in their apartments are filled with pots of indoor flowers, use ordinary tap water to water their “green pets”.

And there is nothing wrong with that – this water is suitable for most houseplants, but only if you take care of its temperature.

The thing is that plants, just like people, react to sudden temperature changes.

This is what happens when you water your flowers with very cold water.

1. Heat shock occurs, which can damage the roots, which are the most important part of any plant, responsible for the absorption of water and nutrients.

2. As a result of such actions, plant growth may slow down, since instead of developing new shoots and leaves, the flower will spend its energy on regeneration.

3. Finally, the result of using cold water for watering can be yellowing of the leaves, since too cold liquid disrupts the vital activity of plant cells.

If we are talking about so-called delicate species, for example, violets and orchids, such an action can even cause the death of the plants.
