How long carrots will last in storage depends primarily on the conditions in which they are grown and the variety. Incidentally, this is how they are similar to potatoes.
An expert of the online publication BelNovosti, agronomist, and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh advises choosing carrots that belong to the mid-season and late varieties.
Preparing carrots for storage is also important.
Before transferring root vegetables to the basement, you need to remove dirt from them and cut off the tops level with the head, then dry them for 1-2 days, laying them out in the sun.
For successful storage, provide carrots with suitable conditions: air temperature of +1..+2 degrees and humidity at 85-90%.
Most gardeners store the harvest of this vegetable in wooden boxes, sprinkling them with, for example, sawdust, rowan leaves or sand.
The container size should be small. Optimally, one box can hold no more than 15-18 kg of carrots.
In this case, you will need to half fill a 10-liter bucket with clay and pour 4.5 liters of water into it. Mix the contents of the container thoroughly and leave it for 12 hours.
After the specified time, fill the bucket to the top with water, stir again and wait another day to achieve the required creamy consistency of the clay.
After preparing the clay mixture, you should prepare a small wooden box, cover it with film and lay the carrots in rows, and then pour clay over the vegetables.
