During snowy and frosty seasons, grapes are in serious danger.
Thus, the plant may freeze or be attacked by one or another pest.
There is a high probability that the grapes simply will not survive the winter.
However, proper preparation of the crop for a difficult period will guarantee the survival of the flora and a rich harvest next season.
For everything to be good, the grapes need to undergo four November procedures.
Which one exactly? This question was answered by the expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", scientist-agronomist and landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh.
The plant should not “starve” during the cold season.
It is desirable for the crop to receive a supply of substances and microelements for the winter.
If you do not perform the appropriate procedure, then by the beginning of spring the grapes will become too "weak". Then there will be problems with the formation of ovaries and with fruiting. Even spring fertilization will not help.
Grapes should be fed in advance: in the first half of November. During this period, the following mixture will have a positive effect on the plant: superphosphate (20 grams), potassium salt (10 grams), zinc sulfate (2 grams) and boric acid (1 gram).
The above components must be placed in a bucket almost completely filled with water.
The resulting liquid is enough for one square meter of the area.
Before the onset of winter, the grapes must also receive a supply of moisture. Especially if the ending autumn was not distinguished by an abundance of precipitation.
A small groove (maximum depth - 10 centimeters) should be made around the plant. Water should be poured into this hole. For each adult plant - one and a half buckets of liquid.
The final month of autumn is a period that is ideal for the formation of grape bushes.
The plant must be freed from all too thin and thick shoots.
After the procedure is completed, the crop needs to be treated with a solution of ferrous sulfate: thanks to this agent, the grapes will acquire protection from diseases and pests.
At the end of the calendar autumn, the plant can be covered with spruce branches or straw.
This way, the grapes will be provided with almost 100% protection from adverse winter weather conditions.
