Summer residents do not particularly think about the methods of planting potatoes. Manual or mechanized labor is chosen.
But it turns out that there are three ways to plant potatoes that allow you to increase the yield of this crop and grow larger tubers.
Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, an expert of the online publication "BelNovosti", a scientist, agronomist and landscape designer, told how best to plant potatoes.
1. It is necessary to prepare a long furrow no more than 25 cm deep and no more than 30 cm wide.
The interval between trenches is not less than 70 cm.
2. The bottom of the furrow is covered with straw or weeds, soil on top and then planting material.
3. The tubers are covered with soil so that a low ridge is formed.
After all work is completed, the bed is covered with agrofibre until the first shoots appear.
1. In this case, potatoes are planted not in a furrow, but in formed ridges, 20 cm high and up to 60 cm wide.
2. The interval between rows is up to 60 cm.
3. The tubers are placed in the ground to a depth of 10 cm at a distance of 30 cm from each other.
This technique requires regular watering, especially in dry summers.
This is the simplest of the proposed options.
1. The soil is prepared in advance and covered with black agrofibre and secured.
2. Make cuts at the planting sites, planning them in a checkerboard pattern.
3. Then dig holes, plant the sprouted tubers and cover with soil.
The advantage of this method is that there is no need for hilling and weeding.
It is suitable for growing early potatoes.
All these methods allow you to increase the potato yield and grow larger tubers.
