Even if you don’t have a summer house, this doesn’t mean that you are deprived of the opportunity to try your hand at gardening.
You can grow almost anything on a windowsill – even carrots. According to the expert of the online publication BelNovosti, scientist-agronomist, landscape designer Anastasia Kovrizhnykh, for growing in apartment conditions you should choose early and short varieties (Karotel, Karakas, Vnuchka, etc.).
In addition to seeds, you should stock up on opaque containers, boxes or pots that are at least 15 cm deep and have drainage holes in the bottom.
You will also need soil – for vegetables or universal. To make the soil more absorbent and breathable, mix the soil with clean sand.
Finally, if the room in which you plan to grow carrots is poorly lit or you plan to do this during the cold season, be sure to get phytolamps.
Mix soil with sand in a ratio of 2 to 1 and fill containers with the resulting mixture.
To plant the seeds, you need to make furrows 1-1.5 cm deep. Leave a distance of about 2 cm between the seeds. If it turns out that the seedlings are too dense, thin them out so that the distance between the plants is at least 4 cm.
Carrots growing on a windowsill need to be watered every 2-3 days and fertilized weekly.
Carrots require 10-12 hours of light per day, so use a phytolamp in the morning, evening or on cloudy days.
The time it takes for carrots to ripen depends on the variety and ranges from 2 to 4 months.
