All gardeners know that plants need to be fed and fertilized at the end and beginning of the season, otherwise a real harvest will not be collected.

Another important point is the time frame when you need to manage to carry out mandatory fertilizing. If you do not meet the recommended intervals, you can be left without a harvest.

The expert of the online publication "BelNovosti" Anastasia Kovrizhnykh - a scientist agronomist and landscape designer spoke about the intricacies of feeding blueberries - a very important point.

When to feed blueberries

In this case, it is not only the fertilizer that matters, but also the timing of its application and the age of the bushes.

The first feeding must be done before mid-April.

The second feeding is carried out 4 weeks after the first.

A month after the first feeding, it is recommended to add ammonium sulfate.

It is important to finish adding fertilizers before the beginning of June, especially if we are talking about nitrogen additives.

What to feed

Starting with the first feeding, fertilizers are applied at intervals of once every 4 weeks.

The easiest way is to use specialized additives.

But you can prepare the nutritious mixture yourself.

To do this, you need to mix:

  • ammonium sulfate 90 g;
  • superphosphate 110 g;
  • potassium sulfate 40 gr.

For young bushes no older than two years, you can add 1 tbsp of fertilizer.

Three-year-old bushes are fed with 2 tbsp.

Bushes that are four to five years old require 4 and 5 spoons, respectively.

For bushes older than 6 years, you can add 10-15 tablespoons of fertilizer.

And don't forget to apply fertilizers with high phosphorus and potassium content at the end of August.
